Natur Green Birch Sugar – Xylitol 500g belongs to the “sugar alcohols”: these are natural compounds that taste sweet, but are not absorbed in the small intestine very much, if at all, so they hardly raise blood sugar levels, and supply fewer calories than sugar. They also do not cause caries.
Sugar alcohols are quite common in nature, but because their isolation is expensive, they are usually created by minor chemical hydrogenation as “semisynthetic” sugars: lactitol from lactose, maltitol from maltose, xylitol from xylose….
Xylitol from Naturgreen is made from xylose from birch. Xylitol is almost as sweet as sugar, carries 30% to 40% fewer calories than sugar and has a pleasant cooling sensation in the mouth. Overuse has a laxative effect and can cause flatulence. Suitable for diabetes.
